Government providing $2000 on a new Cemetery at
Wong bei Ching, and Ordinance
tt
8 of 1867, authorized the Trustees to surrender
The lease, and the Government to resume
the ground and on the 10th August of the
same year, the old Cemetery was closed. On the 29th March
1871
Vide
C.R.O. M: 858 the Trustees applied
for the payment of the $2000 but the Surveyor
General then recommended that they should
produce certain plans & after this, I have
not been able to find any further records, but I think the Government now has the
right to deal with this ground, and use it for such purposes as may be deemed
most advisable in the interests of
the Public
At present there are 15 tombs still
on the ground, and I have no doubt there are also many graves, which have nothing to mark, or indicate their position, and from which the remains have not yet been removed, but as it is now upwards
of
15 years since the last burial took
place therein, I presume there would be
little or no danger to apprehend for exhumation
